DLA Piper has advised long-standing client and leading infrastructure investor DIF Capital Partners (DIF) on its EUR150 million investment in Stockholm-based Alight, a leading developer of subsidy free solar projects in the Nordics.

DIF is acquiring a majority stake in Alight through the EUR150 million committed investment and a secondary buy-out of a number of existing shareholders. The investment, closed via a primary capital raise, will accelerate the build-out of Alight’s near-term pipeline of solar projects, helping the company retain ownership of projects and transition into an Independent Power Producer. With a pipeline of over 1 GW of projects under development, Alight has become a leader in Europe’s commercial solar roll-out through its subsidy-free approach to solar power purchase agreements (PPAs).

Natasha Luther-Jones, International Head of Sustainability and ESG, and Global Co-Chair of the Energy and Natural Resources team at DLA Piper, comments: “Our joint UK/Swedish team is pleased to be supporting DIF once again on this transaction in the Nordics. We are seeing a growing trend in investment into similar renewable energy company platforms in the region and fully align with our client’s vision and values when it comes to accelerating the energy transition.”

Björn Sjöberg, Partner, comments: "This is one of the largest investments in large-scale solar in Sweden to date and we are very happy to have assisted DIF on this very forward-leaning transaction. Once again our cross-border renewables team was able to contribute to a very good result for our client and the energy market as a whole in Sweden and Europe."

The DLA Piper Team advising DIF on the matter was co-led by Stockholm-based Partner Björn Sjöberg and London-based Partner Natasha Luther-Jones, and supported by Petter Kjöllerström (Partner, Stockholm), Martin Nyberg Arlert (Senior Associate, Stockholm) and Tom Metcalfe (Senior Associate, Leeds).
